Like most award shows, the Oscars 2021 ceremony felt the impact of the pandemic: the Academy delayed the ceremony by two months and extended the eligibility period for films released in 2020 to February 2021. Another adjustment allowed for films originally released in theaters, but they were forced to release directly. to digital platforms to qualify for Oscars.
Based on last year’s schedule, these are the expected starting times:
USA: The Oscars begin on Sunday, April 25 at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET.
UK: The Oscars start on Monday, April 26 at 1am GMT.
Australia: The Oscars begin on Monday, April 26 at 10 a.m. AEST.
Who is hosting?
Short answer: nobody. The hostless trend started in 2019 when Kevin Hart resigned of hosting tasks amid criticism of his earlier insensitive tweets. The 2020 show went without a host, and the 2021 show will do the same.
Who are the nominees?
David Fincher’s Mank leads this year’s Oscar nominations with 10. It faces stiff competition in the best photo category from awards darling Nomadland, directed by Chloé Zhao. Both she and Emerald Fennell, who is behind the haunting revenge thriller Promising Young Woman, have been nominated for best director, making this the first time that two women have been nominated in the category in the same year. They are exciting things. View the full list of nominations here.

About the Oscars 2021
Next Sunday, the 93rd Academy Awards will take place – a phrase that is likely to make everyone cringe given the Oscars postponement in 2021 this year due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. It falls in April instead of the usual February slot this year, but it still promises to be an evening of glitz, glamor and many a tribute to some of the best films to come out in recent months.
