The current release plan for Fast and Furious 9 means it will hit theaters first, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be available to stream at home – you’ll just have to wait a while. Since F9 is from Universal, it’s possible it will be available for rental on premium VOD 17 days after it hits theaters. Under Universal’s deal with movie theater chains like AMC, the movie theater window will be shortened to just 17 days, meaning Universal movies will be available to rent digitally for $19.99 just two and a half weeks after they premiere.

Still, sources told Decider last month that Universal will allow F9 to stay in theaters for more than 17 days, as the window agreed between Universal and AMC is flexible. Stay tuned for an official digital release date for the latest Fast & Furious movie.

When will Fast and Furious 9 be streaming? When will F9 be on demand?

We do not know yet. Fast & Furious 9 is a Universal movie and Universal Studios has a deal with AMC that will allow the studio to release its movies on demand – usually on premium on demand, meaning you can rent the movie for $19.99 – after only 17 days in theaters.

However, it’s unlikely that Fast & Furious 9 will move to PVOD after just 17 days, considering it’s such a huge movie. Sources close to the situation have told Decider that Universal plans to run F9 exclusively in theaters for more than just 17 days, as the 17-day window is flexible. However, an official digital release date for F9 has not yet been announced. The studio will likely make that decision based on how well the film does at the box office. With the roll-out of vaccines, but also with variants of the COVID-19 virus on the rise, it’s too early to say how comfortable moviegoers will feel going to the theaters in June.

Given all this, there’s a good chance that Fast & Furious 9: F9: Fast 9: Furious 9:9 Fast 9 Furious home could be available for rent before the summer is over, but as free on streaming? Read more. It’s complicated.

Fast and Furious 9 (F9) Review:

For a series that, at least for a while, was about nitro-injected street cred and grease monkey car culture, the Fast & Furious movies really only have two gears. You are fast and you are furious. Stunts have gotten bigger, shinier and faker, but even in the worst cases, they were always fast, dangerous. And just as crucial is that every utterance about family from the mouth of Vin Diesel has a heavy solemnity. That’s the furious part. For more than 20 years, the plots have turned into world-hopping spy nonsense – and these muscle cars certainly jumped, sometimes with their own parachutes – but the white-hot melodrama has skyrocketed at the same time.

Director Justin Lin, who perfected the formula with 2011’s insanely stupid Fast Five, is back at the helm after sitting out for two rounds as production struggled with the untimely death of co-star Paul Walker and some intra-actor bitchiness. Lin’s Fast & Furious 9 feels like a rejuvenation. It’s not just the fumes talking. (It’s a thrill to face something big and loud again.) The film is a return to principles, and when it derails into sheer folly—almost irreparably at one point—there’s at least an ethos in it.

Super fans will be cheering the return of another character from the grave. But when the VFX are so blatantly weightless, your eyes may already be wandering to the corner of the screen to see how many lives are left. These F&F movies have a mysterious physics: not the laws of gravity or real-world kinetics, but those of catastrophic urban damage without casualties. A powerful magnet that crushes cars through buildings is at the heart of F9’s strongest action sequence. Elsewhere, two of Dom’s most bickering associates are launched into space for no rational reason in a cherry-red Pontiac. You could smile at the folly of the whole undertaking – at least, if you’re feeling generous.
