Crossover has been the name of the game lately. From Batman teaming up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to a bunch of heroes coming together in Avengers: EndgameThere’s been a lot of crossovers in TV, movies, comics, etc. However, now we’re seeing one of the biggest crossovers in history, and it has to do with two dogs that get scared very, very easily.
Ah yes, the sweet cowards that are Scooby-Doo and Courage the Cowardly Dog. While Scooby-Doo helped the Mystery Machina gang solve cases involving fake ghosts in real estate scams, Courage faced existential, wretched terror in the middle of nowhere Kansas. But Millennials, Zilennials, and even Zoomers can have fond memories of watching these shows.
So what brings Courage together with Scooby-Doo? How will TV’s biggest cowards (but not really because they do it) work together? Will the adventure send the Scooby-Doo gang into an existential crisis like when “Scoobynatural” was over? supernatural happened? Let’s check out the trailer and see what we all need to know!
How did this even happen? What is it about?
Listen, either someone in the WB animated writer’s room broke out their thinking weed or the concept just sounded fun, take your pick. Anyway, it’s the beloved’s 20th birthday Cheer on the cowardly dog so he might as well team up with Scooby-Doo. It’s like a right of way in animation at this point in history, you know? Why not do it?
As SYFY wire describes the film: “Mystery, Inc [is] on the tail of a strange object in Nowhere, Kansas: the desolate hometown of Courage and his owners, Muriel and Eustace Bagge, which also happens to be a hub of strange supernatural happenings. Scooby (Frank Welker) and the gang soon have to deal with a giant cicada monster (especially fitting for 2021) and her wacky winged warriors.
To take down the conspiracy of insects that is simply too big for a household fly swatter, they need the help of another timid mutt, Courage (Marty Grabstein). Can the two iconic mongrels overcome their jitters to solve the case or will they go completely crazy? Like, zoinks, man – that’s the real mystery!” Also joining the duo is equally anxious Shaggy, which means so much screaming.
However, aren’t the animation styles completely different?
Good question! The director/producer for Straight out of nowhere OutCecilia Aranovich said in a statement that they were trying to bring both worlds together in a logical way. “Putting the two worlds together in a cohesive way has been one of the most challenging aspects of production,” she said, but she feels the team has found a way to achieve balance.
“But I feel like we’ve struck the right balance by bringing in the design elements and color palette from the Courage world, and by providing Scooby and the gang with the more over-the-top takes and reactions that are so signature are for Courage. Packed with Easter eggs from the first Courage series, the film is packed with quirky humor, offbeat characters, outlandish action sequences, and of course the mystery factor inherent in every Scooby-Doo! Story.”
From the trailer, there seems to be a good mix of both, even though this is actually happening, isn’t it? The film will be available for purchase on September 14, just in time for the pregame for the haunted season.
